The killing took place on the plantation of Mr.McGough, in Monroe Co., where Bryant was living. The murder took place just before dark last Thurs. evening (06/11/1868), while Bryant was sitting in his cabin. An inquest was held & the jury returned the verdict that Bryant was killed by Lucas. Lucas' wife had deserted him, and at the time of the murder, was living with Bryant in the relation of husband and wife. Proclamation was issued 06/23/1868.
