The new machinery was designed and planned by Prof. W. D. Thurmond, who served an apprenticeship under his father, Wm. H. Thurmond, late of this county, before he entered the profession of teaching; was the manager and mechanical engineer of the Thurmond Car Coupling Co., of New York city and in which he gained considerable reputation as an inventor and master mechanic. The singing at Mt. Pleasant church on July 4 was all things considered, a signal success, and will long be remembered by all whose happy lot was to attend. A most excellent dinner was prepared and served by the good and liberal women of the community, and many hearts were made happy; leaving sweet memories to go down in the history of dear old Mt. Pleasant. We had some excellent and fine singers present, among whom were Chas. J. Strozier, T. J. Cooper, W. H. Horton, S. P. Strickland, P. F. Allen, of Macon; J. M. Allen of Fort Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Owen of Barnesville; Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Lunsford, of Forsyth, and others. There has been scheduled a big singing and barbecue at Tabernacle church on July 25 at Brent, to which the public and all leaders in singing are cordially invited to attend. The protracted meeting at Mount Pleasant will begin on next Sunday, July 21, and continue through the week, except on Thursday on account of the barbecue and singing at Tabernacle that day. The services will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Moseley of Forsyth and we hope the people of that and adjoining communities will encourage him by their presence.
