Greene Dies at the Home of Daughter Near Forsyth The death of Mrs. Sarah Frances Greene, widow of the late George W. Greene, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. H. Green, near Forsyth, Monday. Mrs. Greene was 68 years of age. She had been a life-long resident of Monroe County. For more than a year she had been in declining health. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Thurmond. In her last illness Mrs. Greene was surrounded by her children - Mrs. D. H. Green of Forsyth, J. C. Greene of Birmingham, Ala., Carl F. Greene of New Orleans, Ed Greene of Cincinnati and Walter W. Greene of Pittsburg. Funeral services were held at her late residence, and the interment was in Oakland cemetery. Additional Comments: Sarah Frances Thurmond was born 4 January 1849 in Upson Co., GA, the oldest child of William Harrison Thurmond, Jr. and Amanda Jane (Buff) Thurmond. She married George Washington Greene on 14 January 1869 in Monroe Co., GA. She and her husband are both buried at Oakland Cemetery in Forsyth, Monroe Co., which is now known as the Forsyth City Cemetery.
