Robertson) Barnesville, Ga., May 30th. ---Mr. Pierce Hammond, Sr., 53, for years one of the leading citizens of Barnesville, died at his home here early Tuesday, following a short illness. Mr. Hammond was the son of the late Dudley Hammond, a prominent attorney of Forsyth. He came to Barnesville in early childhood, and was educated at Gordon Institute, from which school he graduated as a captain in the R. O. T. C. He also served as captain in the Barnesville Blues local military company. He conducted a mercantile business here, and later a haberdashery. He also served as city alderman for several terms,. He was a devoted member of the Methodist church and for a long number of years was the superintendent of the Sunday school and a steward.
