NETTIE K. INGRAM Mrs. Nettie K. Ingram, wife of J. F. Ingram; was born Jan. 11th, 1836, and died in Barnesville, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Maddox, July 24th, 1915, making her stay on earth seventy-nine years, five months and twenty-four days. She was married to J. F. Ingram Oct. 21st, 1858, to which union were born six children, four survive her. Two sons, W. H. and W. B. Ingram, and two daughters, Mrs. Ed Maddox, and Mrs. J. R. Parham. Seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, one sister and many other relatives and friends are left to mourn her in this life. Burt we mourn not as those without hope, for we are comforted with the blessed assurance and sweet evidences of her acceptance with Him who doeth all things well. She was the daughter of Elder Benjamin Haygood. On May 5th, 1867, she united with the Primitive Baptist Church at Sharon. Mamma was the oldest member, having been a member forty-eight years. She was baptized by Elder D. W. Simmons. Although during her last years she was not able to attend her meetings, she remained firm in the faith of the Primitive Baptist church. Mamma was one of a family of 11 children. Only one sister, Mrs. Mattie Oxford of Culloden, remains to mourn her loss. She enjoyed good health until about four years ago when she had a slight stroke of paralysis, from which her mind and body never entirely recovered. Mamma was a devoted follower of her Savior before she became so afflicted. Her place at church was always filled when possible. Her home was always open to her brethren and sisters; she never tired of entertaining them. Their company was her delight. Mamma was a companion and help mate, indeed, a good neighbor, beloved by all who knew her. If dear mamma ever had an enemy I never heard of it. When afflictions visited those in the community, she was as tender-hearted as a child and in the hour of death she was ever comforting. Saturday morning before she died that evening, she sang "In That Sweet By and By", yes and today I believe she is in that beautiful and that is fairer than day. I hope to meet her when life's storms are over. May the God of all mercy deal graciously and kindly with all of us who survive; giving us hears renewed by grace, to help us all to imitate the noble Christian life she lived. Oh, how often has dear mamma prayed for her children, that theymight love the same precious truths she lived, and may God answer her prayer and bring her children home to Zion. Old Sharon church has lost one of her old and faithful members, but let us not forget the good pattern she has given us by her orderly walk and Godly conversation. May I always be as true and faithful to the good old church as she has been. Dear mamma, I hope to meet you again where separations will be no more, and where sorrow and sighing will flee away. A short service was conducted at Ramah Church by Elder W. W. Childs, after which her remains were laid away in the Ramah cemetery to await the second coming of our Lord at the sound of the trumpet and the dead in Christ shall rise. Our arms were too short to keep her here with us. She was old and frail, but in that day she will come forth with all the vigor of the spiritual heirs of God and will join in singing the song of revelation. Oh what a joy that will be. Sleep on dear mother, and take thy rest, With thy sweet hands upon thy breast; There'll be no more pain nor suffering there, But the joys of heaven you'll sweetly share You are not dead, but only sleeping, The sweet sleep that knows no waking. Written by her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Parham Additional Comments: Obit mentions that Nettie Ingram was buried at Ramah Church. Nettie is buried at the Haygood/Stroud family cemetery in the Stroud Community.
