D. Johnson Claimed by Death Mrs. I. D. Johnson, the former Miss Ethel Thurmond, popular Monroe county citizen, passed away Saturday. The survivors are her husband; four brothers, Dr. T. D. Thurmond of Griffin, Frank Thurmond of Forsyth, Charles Thurmond of Perry and George Thurmond of Kress [sic; should be Crest]; five sisters, Mrs. R. E. L. Hawkins of Barnesville, Miss Vivian Thurmond of Forsyth, Mrs. Tom Means of Barnesville, Mrs. Alice Culpepper of Tampa, Fla. The funeral was conducted at the Bramblett Funeral Home Monday afternoon by Rev. W. B. Holingsworth and interment was in the Barnesville cemetery. Additional Comments: Ethel Buff Thurmond was born 14 November 1887 in Monroe Co., GA, the daughter of William Harrison Thurmond, Jr. and Sarah "Sallie" Catherine (Buff) Thurmond. She married 1) George D. Hall bef. 1930, and 2) Ivan Durwood Johnson on 7 October 1939 in Monroe Co., GA. She is bured in Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville, GA.
