Mrs. Elsberry Stallings, formerly of Lamar county, died in Spartanburg, S.C., Monday morning of last week, after a brief illness. The funeral was held in the Bethel Methodist church of Spartanburg Tuesday and the body was carried to Columbia for interment. Mrs. Stallings was born in Carroll county, Georgia. She was married to G.L. Stallings, who died 24 years ago, after which she married Mr. Elsberry Stallings, with whom she lived at the Stallings’ home near Sugar Hill farm, in southern Lamar, until his death about three years ago. She had since lived with her son, E.L. Stallings, in Spartanburg, S.C. She is survived by one son, Mr. E.L. Stallings, three daughters, Mrs. B.C. Dowling, Arcadia, Fla., Mrs. Edward Hooper, Savannah, Mrs. R.L. Harris, Raleigh, N.C., and several step children and numerous other relatives. Additional Comments: Aker Gordon was born October 15, 1858. Her first husband, G.L. Stallings, was b. July 12, 1856 in Monroe County, Georgia. He died Jan. 7, 1902 in Charlotte, North Carolina. They are buried in Elmwood Memorial Gardens, Richmond County, South Carolina (Find-A-Grave) I believe that G. "Lafayette" Stallings was Elsberry/Elsbury Stallings brother.
