Thurmond Dies Near Forsyth James Merritt Thurmond, well known and popular citizen of Monroe county, passed away at his home near Forsyth, Friday, July 22, at the age of 87 years. The funeral was conducted at the Tabernacle Methodist church at Brent Saturday morning by Rev. J. A. Griffies. Survivors include four brothers, Dr. T. D. and G. F. Thurmand [sic] of Forsyth, C. A. of Perry, and G. J. of Crest; and six sisters, Mrs. Annie Means of Barnesville, Mrs. Allie Culpepper of Fort Valley, Mrs. Lucy Bryant of Florida, Misses Ethel and Vivian Thurmond of Forsyth, and Mrs. Lee Hawkins of Barnesville. Arrangements were in charge of the Bramblett Funeral Home. Additional Comments: Jimmy Thurmond was born 18 June 1852, the son of William Harrison Thurmond, Jr. and Amanda Jane (Buff) Thurmond. He was a miller at his father's Flour Mill on Tobesofkee Creek for many years. He is buried in in the Thurmond- Floyd Cemetery in Monroe Co., GA.
