He was born and reared in this community where he spent his eighty-seven years of life. He lived a quiet and unpretentious life among his neighbors. Serving long and faithfully as their miller at the old historic Thurmond Mill. They shall now miss his face at the mill door where he was accustomed to meet them ready for service. His work is finished, his hands are folded, he is resting from his labors. Funeral services were held at Tabernacle Church on Saturday in the presence of friends and loved ones. In the discourse Rev. Griffies paid a beatiful [sic] tribute to his life and character. Leroy Smith sang impressively, "Where We Never Grow Old" and "Those Golden Bells." His body was interred in the family burial grounds. Those from out of the community attending the funeral services were C. A. Thurmond and Charlie Andrews, Perry; George Thurmond, Crest; Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Thurmond and children, Macon; Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Irwin and children of Macon; Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Moon, C. C., Eugene and Edward Thurmond, Mrs. Herman Bankston and Billie Means of Atlanta; Mrs. Eddie Keadle and three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Sappington of Barnesville; Miss Elizabeth Findlater, Phenix City, Ala.; and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bush and three children of South Carolina.
