Will of Jesse Clower, Monroe Co. GA. From: Meredith Clapper Georgia, Monroe County In the name of God, Amen. I Jesse Clower being in proper mind and memory, thanks be to God for the same, calling to mind the mortality of my body, knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say--first of all, I recommend my soul to God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors. Nothing doubting but at the general resurection I shall receive the same again by the favor of the Almighty God. And as touch (sic) wordly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give devise and bequeath of the same in the following manner viz: 1st I do make appoint ordain my wife Matilda Clower my Executrix and my son John F. Clower my Executor to carry this my last will and testament into affect. 2nd I will and bequeath that my said Executors sell all my lands that lye (sic) out of Monroe county, to the best advantage as they think & hope and after all my just debts be paid the residue to be loaned or placed to the best advantage. 3rd I will and bequeath that all the balance of my estate be kept together until some of my children become of age or marry and when any one of my children become of age or marry to have their equal part of my estate at such time and so to be divided until my youngest child becomes of age or married. 4th I will and bequeath that my wife, Matilda Clower, leave her equal part with any children that is to say a child's part of my estate during her natural life or widowhood and in case of her death her part to be equally divided among my four children and in case she should marry, her part to return to my children at the time of her marriage and her to draw five hundred dollars out of my estate and her executorship to cease, at that time and that to be all that shall be allowed her. In testamony whereof I the said Jesse Clower have herewith set my hand and seal this 19th December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one. Personally appeared in open court Amos Ponder and George W. Hansford, who after being duly sworn depose and sayeth that they and each of them saw Jesse Clower sign seal and deliver the within will for the purposes therein mentioned and that he declared the same to be his last will and testament and that they believe him to be of sound mind at the time and that each of as subscribed the same as attesting witnessed and saw John Daniel do so likewise, sworn to in open court this 5th March, 1832.
