MINCEY S. S. Mincey (b. 1865 - d. 1930) — of Ailey, Montgomery County, Ga. Republican. Delegate to Republican National Convention from Georgia, 1912, 1920. He was a leader in his community respected for his leadership. The Rosenwald School for blacks came into being due to his work. He owned his own farm and was "treasurer of the widows and orphans department of the Negro Masonic Lodge of Georgia." Mr. Mincey was a leader in both the Negro Masonic lodge and the Negro Knights of Pythias. "Mincey's wife, Asalena, was a businesswoman who made and sold hats in a downtown Ailey." He was beaten to death for political activities in Uvalda, Montgomery County, Ga., July 29, 1930. At 70, Mincey was a successful farmer and longtime leader in the Republican Party. After he fell out with some white Republicans, he was abducted from his home by masked men and flogged to death. He had 10 children and seven grandchildren Interment at Live Oak Baptist Church Cemetery. Families come together and also do clean up of cemeteries, and reflect on the principles S.S. Mincey stood for.
