(Page 1015 of Vol V. of the Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865, is Company K, 57th Regiment Georgia Infantry, not the 5th Regiment. We have not found a service record for a man listed in Company K, 57th, but we did find the man listed above in Company H, 57th. (Later note - Actually, the service record does show him in Company K!) We checked the index to the Confederate pension applications and found the following: William Chambers applied for a Confederate soldier's pension as a resident of Montgomery County, Georgia. (According to his application, he was a member of Company K, 57th Regiment Georgia Infantry)." Are you acquainted with William Chambers, the applicant, if so how long have you known him? 53 years + 38 ?????(unreadable) 3. Where does he reside, and how long has he been a resident of this state? Montgomery Co, Ga All his life. 4. Do you know of his having served in the Confederate Army or the Georgia Militia? How do you know this? I do, by his going off with the Company of soldiers from Wilkinson County Ga. 5. When, where and in what company and regiment did he enlist? 1862, Wilkinson County, 57th Reg, Co K. 6. Were you a member of the same company and regiment? I was not. 7. How long did he perform regular military duty, and what do you know of his service as a Confederate soldier, and the time and circumstances of his discharge from the service? He was gone about 2 years. He was discharged from service at Sav Ga. Think in 1864, came home in very bad health and has been so every since then. 8. What property, effects or income has the applicant? (Give your means of knowledge) None, that I know. He is a brother-in-Law of mine. He is a very poor man. 9. What property, effects or income did the applicant possess in 1893 and 1894, and what disposition, if any, did he make of same? He possessed none in his own right, only lives with his children. 10. What is the applicants occupation and physical condition? Assisting Ferryman, that is, he overlooks his son. His physical is bad. He has been in very bad health since 1864. 11. Is the applicant unable to support himself by labor of any sort, if so, why? I don't(partly unreadable) think he is bad health, infirmity and old age. 12. How was he supported during the years 1893 and 1894? By his own work and aid of his wife and son. 13. What portion of his support for these 2 years was derived from his own labor or income? He could have help a little, say $15 or $25. 14. Give a full and complete statement of the applicants physical condition that entitles him to a pension under the Act of Dec 15th, 1894?
