                           Mrs. Bertha Mae Gillis
 Mrs. Bertha Mae Gillis, 81, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, July 7, at Meadows 
Memorial Hospital in Vidalia after a long illness.
 She was a native of Wheeler County, but had lived in Montgomery County most 
of her life. She was a houswife and a member of the Vidalia Church of God. She 
was a also a member of the Golden Age Club in Mt. Vernon.
 Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Mattie Bell McDaniel and Mrs. Geneva 
McDaniel, both of Soperton, Mrs. Georgia Brantley and Mrs. Lula Thigpen, both 
of Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Lillian Edge of Oconte, Wisconsin, Mrs. Eloise Kragg of 
Tampa, Fla., and  Sharon Hutcheson of Oak Park; three sons, Alex Gillis and M. 
B. Gillis, both of Mt. Vernon and M. D. Gillis of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; one 
sister, Mrs. Ola Brown of Griffin; one brother, Joe Ruis; 47 grandchildren; 78 
great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and 
nephews.
 Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10 at 3:00pm from Red Bluff Baptist 
Church in Treutlen County. Rev. Aaron Reeves and Rev. W. R. Connell 
officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
 The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Sammy Meeks, Buddy Byrd, 
Albert Hinson, Johnny Brantley, Randy Brantley, and Roy Gene Vick.
 Jerry W. Grimes Funeral Home of Mt. Vernon was in charge of arrangements.

Additional Comments:
Bertha Mae was born 5-26-1901 to Unknown and Louisa Jane "Lula" Foskey Ruis. 
Her husband, Ivey Gillis is also buried at Red Bluff.
