The Atlanta Constitution, October 24, 1876
     Old Isaac Jackson, probably the last one of General George Washington’s old 
servants, died in Montgomery County recently at the extraordinary age of one 
hundred and twenty-two years. Mr. Daniel McMillan, an old and esteemed citizen 
of Montgomery, informs us that he knew old Isaac for thirty-two years, when he 
was set free. He was then the property of Georgia’s old and honored governor, 
Troupe. Governor Troupe, when he made old Isaac free, gave him a good horse, 
saddle and bridle, and before the governor died, which occurred some years 
afterward he made provision in his will for the support of old Isaac until his 
death. Gov. Troup was buried at “Valdosta” the name of his plantation in 
Montgomery County, on the east side of the Oconee River, and old Isaac’s bones 
rest also in the same county.  Hawkinsville Dispatch.
