In the name of God Amen. I William Perkins of the county and state aforesaid being weak and feeble in body but of sound mind and disposing memory. Knowing that death is certain and life uncertain, deem it right and proper both as respects my family and myself that I should make a disposition of what worldly goods which providence has blessed me by will, do make constitute and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following hereby revoking all former wills heretofore made by me. Item 1. It is my will and desire that my body be buried in a decent Christian like manner, suitable to my circumstance and condition in life, and my soul to God who gave it, as I hope for eternal salvation through the merits and atonement of the blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whose religion I have professed and as I humbly XXX enjoyed for many years; Item 2nd. I will and direct that my last debts be paid as soon as practical by my executors hereinafter named, Item 3rd. I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Prudence M. Perkins, one Bed, Bedstead and furniture, Six split bottom chairs, one mahogany bureau with all the furniture which she brought with her at the time of our marriage. I do further give her my said wife four negroes. To wit, Sarah a negro woman slave about twenty six or seven years of age. Milley a girl about eight years old. Mary a girl about seven years of age and Harriet about five years old and their increase. Also the sum of two thousand dollars in money to be paid to her out of the first money raised from the sale of such property as hereafter directed to be sold for that purpose, and the payment of debts if any at that time, the negroes and money which I have thus willed to my wife is in lieu of her dower right in my lands which if she elects to take dower in my lands she is not to have the aforesaid negroes nor the two thousand Dollars in money; Item 4th. I have heretofore given to my Daughter Elizabeth Ann Cunningham and children, property and money which I have paid for her husband Moses A. Cunningham to the amount of forty five hundred Dollars, not subject to the debts of her husband; Item 5th. I have heretofore given to my Daughter Sarah Jane Phillips and her children negroes and other property which I give he at the time she married and left me amounting to the sum of twenty five hundred Dollars, and I will and bequeath to her and her children for her children’s sake and separate use and benefit two thousand Dollars more in money or negroes as she may choose, if in negroes they must be appraised to her and children by persons appointed by the ordinary for that purpose the money or negroes thus willed to my Daughter Sarah Jane Phillips is to her and her children for her and her children sole and separate use and benefit not subject to the payment of my debt or debts of her present or any future husbands. Item 6th. I will and bequeath to my son Walker P. Perkins the said negroes and other property which I give him him heretofore to the amount of Three thousand Dollars, And I further will and bequeath to my said son Walker P. Perkins the further sum of Fifteen hundred Dollars in negro property at appraised value as directed in the fifth item of my will. Item 7th. I give and bequeath to my son Jeremiah Thomas Perkins the land and negroes and other property which I give heretofore to the amount of Two thousand Dollars, and I further give and bequeath to him the further sum of Twenty five hundred Dollars in negroes to be appraised as the others all of which property here willed to my son Jeremiah Thomas Perkins is to be held by my son Walker P. Perkins in trust for his Brother Jeremiah Thomas Perkins, not subject to be sold or taken for the payment of any debt or debts of my son Jeremiah Thomas Perkins, nor to be sold by him unless my son Walker P. Perkins consent and should my son Jeremiah Thomas Perkins die leaving no child or children, then and in that event all the property thus willed to be returned by said XXX to my estate and Equally divided between my surviving children or their children in case that any of my other children should be dead and having child or children living; Item 8th. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Lurania Frances McCoy and her children Negroes and money which I give her and her children heretofore in the amount of Thirty Three hundred Dollars, and I further give to her and her children Twelve hundred Dollars in negroes to be appraised as before directed to my other children for her and her children’s sole and separate use, free from the debt or debts of her present or future husband; Item 9th. I will and bequeath to my Daughter Amanda L. Whitfield negroes and other property which I give her heretofore to the amount of Two thousand Dollars, and I further give to her the further sum of of twenty five hundred Dollars in negroes at their appraised value; Item 10th. It is my will and desire that my land and all other property not willed, except my negroes, be sold, the land on one and one years credit, and my other property upon a credit of twelve months, and after the payment of my debts and the two thousand Dollars to my wife, and the legacys to my children in negroes is made, the balance to be equally divided between all my children equally with the same restrictions and liabilities to be observed and applied to each one as before directed to them and their children. Item 11th. I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Walker P. Perkins, and my son-in-law Benjamin A.(?) Whitfield my Executors to carry this my last will and testament into effect.
