Rachellbab@aol.com October 31, 2005, 5:29 pm Deed of Gift - Slaves Written: 1814 MAY 19, 1814 MORGAN COUNTY, GEORGIA DEED BOOK D, PAGE 188, 189 AND 190 Know all men be they present that I William Wortham of the County of Morgan and State of Georgia for the Love and Affection I bear to my children which I have by my wife Sally Wortham …………………….. I first give to my Daughter Selinda Wortham two certain Negro girls; RACHEL about Eleven years old and PHEBY about Seven years old and one feather bed and furniture to have and to hold the said Negroes with all their increase forever. Secondly I give to my Daughter Sally Wortham two certain Negro girls DAPHNEY about Twelve years old and HETTY [my line] about Three years old and one feather bed and furniture to have and to hold the said Negroes with all their increase forever. Thirdly I give to my son William Taliaferro Wortham two Negro boys DANIEL about Eight years old and GREEN about 2 months old and one Colt to have and to hold the said property forever. Fourthly I give to my son Joseph White Wortham Two certain Negro boys SIMON about Five years old and BOB about Four years old to have and to hold said Negroes forever. Fifthly I give to my two youngest sons Thomas Payne Wortham and Zechariah George Wortham, Three certain Negroes TOM, CHARITY AND SINTHEY and one fraction of Land on the Estate of hard labour containing 101 8/10 known by NO. 155, Twenty head of Cattle and 50 head of Hogs, One Bay Mare and Colt, Two beds and furniture all to be equally divided between them when Thomas Payne Wortham comes of age to have and to hold said property with all their increase forever. Excepting the above Negroes and Stock told, be for the support of the other children as well as themselves until they come of age or marry, the household and kitchen furniture and plantation utilities to be further support of all the children named in the Deed of Gift in Witness Whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 19th day of May 1814.
