To his Excellency Joseph E Brown
 
                                                                 Dear Sir

I have delayed writing to you concerning the votes received at the Executive
department for Justice of the Inferior Court for Morgan County Ga for the 
reasons to assertain whether the army votes were properly mailed or not I have 
learned from one of the managers of the Election for the Maleteu [?] at Augusta 
that the returns were mailed the next day after the Election   also have 
reliable information that the returns held at Richmond were also mailed which 
if receied would have Elected mlyself and Mr. Durden_____ Mr Pharrr visited 
your place a few days  after the fifteen days expired and reports no army votes 
received and Mr. Durden_____It is something strange why the returns from 
Augusta could not go through to Milledgeville in fifteen days  also the returns 
from Richmond had plenty of time  I am of the opinion there has been neglect at 
the office where returns are received or fraud some where   I hope you will 
look into the matter as injustice has been done some where

Additional Comments:
Madison Branch Snellings was Justice of the Inferior County of Morgan County, 
Georgia and was running for reelection at the time he wrote this letter to 
Joseph E. Brown, Governon of the state of Georgia. The original of this letter 
is in a folder at the Georgia States Archives. The letter is the the hand 
writing of Snellings and the penmanship is beautiful.
