Harper Johnson clhjohnson@aol.com ==================================================================== The Madisonian Newspaper, 31 January 1908, Apalachee Echoes While waiting for his arrival on last Sunday morning to fill his regular appointment at the Baptist church here, the congregation received the sad news of the death of its paster, Rev. H. C. Fears, of Madison. It would have grieved us to have heard of this good man's death at any time, but it is regretted even more because of such an untimely death, and our people were especially touched on account of the circumstances under which the news was brought to us. As soon as the sad news was de- livered the congregation, which awaited him at his church, held a very short and impressive service, consisting of songs, scripture, reading and prayer, and they could have done nothing that would have been more in accordance with his wishes had he known what was being done. For during his stay among us, he never lost an opportunity to help some one spiritually. Being a man of a broad and practical mind and having lived in close connection with his fellowman, he realized folly, and tried to remedy the ??cked condition of his fellow beings. His life has been a benediction to numbers of people who now mourn his death. We join the many friends of this good old man in the deepest sympathies for his bereaved wife and children. The grip and cold epidemic has struck our town and quite a number of our people are sufferers of same. Mr. Frank Stovall was the guest of home folks here Sunday. The eighth and ninth grade pupils of our school will give a debate at the school house on Friday afternoon. The patrons and friends of the school are invited to attend the exercises. The friends of Miss Annie Prior will be interested to learn that she has resumed her work at Bessie Tif College. The public is cordially invited to attend the ____ of the Golden Link Missionary Society at the Methodist church on next Sunday afternoon.
