W. Atkinson, who died at his home in this county, near Brobston, last Saturday evening. Mr. Atkinson was 41 years old, a deacon of the Baptist church, an affectionate husband, a devoted father, a social companion, a kind neighbor and an exemplary citizen. His influence was always exercised in the promotion of morals and the development of kindly relations among neighbors,. His hand was ever open to the call of charity and his heart full of the milk of human kindness. Although not blessed with affluence, he never failed to respond to honest want. He was never known to neglect the sick in his community, and to this characteristic he probably is indebted for his death, as he, it is supposed contracted the sickness which closed his useful life by his constant unremitting attention to young Brown, who needed his tender care. Mr. Atkinson will be sadly missed, in his neighborhood, in his county and alas! how painful in his family circle. He will be missed in his accustomed seat in his church, at Sunday school and in all charitable enterprises. We are grieved at his loss; pained that he has been called from among us, but have a bright hope that he has passed "beyond the sighing and the bereaving." An affectionate son, brother, husband, father and friend has passed away. Truly may it be said of him: "An angel form walks the earth with silent tread; He bears our best 'loved friends away, And then we call them dead. He leaves our heart all desolate He plucks our brightest flowers, Transported into bliss, they now Adorn immortal bowers." He leaves an affectionate wife and five children to mourn his irreparable loss. But the will of God be done. He doeth all things well. J. C. C. B. Additional Comments: Minor typos corrected.
