ATKINSON IS BURIED Funeral services for Mr. Porter Braswell Atkinson were held at two p.m. Friday, December 6, at Brownwood Baptist Church. Mr. Atkinson died December 4. A native of the Brownwood Community and the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marcelous A. Atkinson, well known Morgan County landowners, he was born on January 7, 1875. A lifelong resident of this county, he farmed in the Brownwood area until he retired several years ago. He was married to Mrs. Madge Williams Atkinson. Mrs. Atkinson died in 1957. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. M. B. Sinclair of Charlotte and Mrss. A. B. Causey of Charlotte, a son, Mr. Herman Atkinson of Madison; two brothers, Mr. Percy Atkinson and Mr. Huttie Atkinson of Miami and a sister, Mrs. J. M. Newsom of Madison; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Mr. Atkinson was a deacon at Centennial Baptist Church. The Rev. James Ashe officated at the service. Pall bearers included Mr. John Williams, Mr. Ralph Johnston, Mr. Gray Hinton, Mr. Henry Atkinson, Mr. Waymon Atkinson and Mr. William Newsom. Burial was in the Brownwood Cemetery. W. C. Hemperley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
