AGED LADY PASSES AT HER HOME HERE 
Nancy Louise Turnell Butts

On Thursday afternoon last at her home on West Jefferson street occurred 
the death of Mrs. W. H. Butts, Sr., aged 87 years. She had been seriously 
ill for several days from pneumonia.

Funeral was held Friday afternoon at three o'clock from Hemperley;s 
chapel, with services conducted by Rev. Zach Hayes. The funeral was 
largely attended. Interment was beside her husband at Mallory chapel.

The pall bearers were Q.L. Wildford, C. H. Baldwin, R. N. Kimbrough, C. 
M. Furlow, W. L. Newton, C. S. Baldwin and W. T. Bacon. 

Mrs. Purks, Mrs. Taylor Reay, C. M. Furlow and Prof. Cooper sang "Face to 
Face." Prof. Cooper and as a solo "I Love to Tell the Story." The 
deceased was the widow of the confederate veteran W. H. Butts, who died 
several years ago at an advanced age. 

As Miss Nancy Turnell she married Mr. Butts in early life at the 
ancestral home in what is now Oconee County. She is survived by two sons, 
George Butts, of Madison, and W. H. Butts, of Fitzgerald; and three 
daughters-Mrs. Hallie Allen, Greenville, SC, Mrs. Alma Richardson, 
Boynton, Fla., and Mrs. W. A. Smith, Madison. 

She was the daughter of George Turnell and Martha Samson, both of whom 
died many years ago. She was a member of a large family, Mr. S. A. 
Turnell, Sr., is the only survivor. Other brothers were Messrs, John, 
Jack and Joe Turnell. Sisters were Mrs. J. W. Beardon, Mrs. Gus Mallory, 
Miss Clem Turnell, and Miss Mattie Turnell.
