Funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Zach Hayes. Interment was in the Madison cemetery, W.C. Hemperley in charge. The pallbearers were Messrs. Grady Atkinson, C.M. Furlow, C.H. Baldwin, J.H. Brown, John Byrd and Shields Burney. A choir sang the deceased's favorite song, "Rock of Ages." The deceased was the daughter of James Newton Copelan and Mary Elizabeth Furlow Copelan, and was born Jan. 30th, 1847, in Greene county. On December 2, 1862, she was married at Greensboro to John Burton Copelan, who died many years ago. She was the mother of seven children, five of whom have preceded her to the spirit world. Surviving her are Mrs. Gussie Cohen, and Mrs. T.A. Morgan, both of Madison. A brother also survives, Mr. R.W. Copelan, of Morgan County. She was a member of the Madison Methodist church, and during all of her long and useful and consecrated life she lived to do good and serve her Lord and those she loved. Additional Comments: Deceased's father was Jasper Newton Copelan; "James" was an error. Her brother, R.W. Copelan, was Rowan Ward Copelan.
