Seldom has our town and community been shrouded in deeper gloom than it was Monday morning, June 10th, when the news was carried out that Mr. L. H. Few had died suddenly. It is true that he had been feeble and in declining health for the past twelve months, but had been confined to his bed for only a few days previous to his unexpected and sudden death. If Mr. Few had lived until the 21st day of August, he would have been seventy-five years old. In his death our town has lost an upright citizen, the people a true friend, the church a loyal and devoted Christian, his children a kind, sweet spirited and indulgent father. It was the pleasure of the writer for the past four years to enjoy a close companionship with this noble, good man. he lived quite an unpretentious life, gentle in his manners, with a heart full of love and kindness toward his fellow man. In his every make up, there was a note of responsiveness and sympathy to any one in trouble, and his hands were never withheld from those who needed his help. He has a large family of children who survive him, seven boys, L. C., S. L., S. E., J. E., W. C., A. J. and W. T. Few, also three daughters, Mrs. Odessa Hanson, of Madison, Misses Mary and Mattie Few, of Rutledge. The funeral was held from Brownwood church, preached by Rev. Mr. Sorrells, the pastor of the Methodist church of Rutledge, of which church Mr. Few has long been a loyal and devoted member. The interment was at Brownwood cemetery, beside his devoted wife, who preceded him nine years. Mrs. Few was, before her marriage to Mr. Few, a Miss Thompson, from a prominent and splended family of Oconee county. It is seldom in life we witness such a beautiful and impressive picture as was shown in the tender care and devotion given this good man by his two daughters, Misses Mary and Mattie Few, with whom he made his home. While he had other children who were devoted to him, we speak especially of those two daughters, as by reason of circumstances, the heartfelt pleasure and joy was accorded them to give their devoted and aged father the daily, yes hourly ministrations of love and comfort that so perfectly brightened his pathway, and brought abundant comfort and joy to him in his ripe old age. And now as they look back to the time when they were children, and their father was a man upon whose strong arm they could lean for protection and help, and whose counsels were safe to guide them, whose heart was full of devotion and love to bless and gratify their childish desires in the countless ways that only a kind and affectionate parent knows -- what a happy return for all his care and love, to be prepared to live, as it were, a child with them. And with his frosted locks and feeble body sweetly reposed upon the bosom of their love and affection, the happy recipient of a thousand tender deeds. Nothing brought to him more unspeakable joy than the hope of his eternal reward that he has so recently gone to receive. Surely those devoted daughters can claim the promise in God's e(unreadable) word, given to children who "Honor thy Father and Mother." And now we commend to those of his children who are so sadly bereaved, one who will dry away every tear and bind up and heal every sad and broken heart. The Saviour's heart is always touched with our grief, though He severs our ties on earth, to strengthen our faith, and brighten our hopes for heaven. In their sorrow and grief, may they feel the grief and love and sympathy of kind and loyal friends are theirs, and while their sorrow now is great; but as one of their many friends, let me say you do not sorrow alone.
