Empire State – Spalding County – Week of April 1, 1857
Death of Dr. John Wingfield  -  Dr. John Wingfield of Madison, Morgan County, 
Georgia died at his residence in that village on Friday evening last,  the 20th 
inst., at 11 o’clock.  Dr. Wingfield was well known as one of the most 
estimable citizens of the State, a cultivated and refined gentleman.  He was at 
the time of his death a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of 
Georgia.
