RICHTER was born in Madison, GA on Jan 14, 1849 (really 1848). He was a mere lad when he went into the army as a private in Company A, Capers' Battalion, Georgia Cadets. As his name implies, he was of German extraction. And he inherited in a marked degree that dogged and persistent determination so characteristic of the Teutonic race. Making up his mind to attain a certain end, he kept the object always in view, and pursued it with an unwavering faith in his final success. Fixed in purpose, bull dog tenacity, and unrelenting zeal spelled his aim in life. And he succeeded. He could not have done it otherwise. He was a merchant, he was a farmer, and he was a horticulturalist, and he succeeded in all of them. On March 2d, 1908 (really November 1, 1907), a few short months after the death of his oldest brother, Charlie, he was summoned hence and his ashes are now mixed with the mother earth that bore him. The original of this document is in the personal possession of Mary Byron McCullough of Royal Palm Beach, FL. I have a scan of the original from which this was transcribed. JCR was my grandfather.
