Gardner passed away Monday afternoon about one o'clock at Dr. Noble's Infirmary, Atlanta. Mr. Gardner went with her to the infirmary Thursday of last week four days before her death. She never rallied from a very serious operation on Monday morning. The remains were brought to Madison that night on the accommodation train and carried to Harmony church, in Putnam county, next morning for funeral and interment. A large crowd was present, and Rev. J. R. King, of the Madison Methodist church, preached the funeral. The interment was in the family lot in the church yard. There were many beautiful flowers. The pall bearers were Messrs. C. S. Baldwin, Henry Zachry, Arthur Zachry, George McWhorter, Asa Marshall and Mr. Caldwell. Sarah Lucy Robins was the daughter of Tom and Sarah Ann Avery Robins, and was born at the old Robins home, near Harmony church, Dec. 6, 1869. She was educated in the common schools of that time. In 1889 she was married to W. A. Avery, who died in 1892. Two children were born to them--Robins, who died in infancy, and Mr. Calvin Avery, of this city. On Feb. 13, 1895, she was married to Mr. Emmett R. Gardner, at the old Robins home. Six children were born to them the first born dying in infancy. Those living are Alma, Emmett, Floy, Rogers, Wallace. Her husband survives also, with a sister, Mrs. Walter Wright, of Buckhead, and Dr. Lee Robins, of Putnam county. She was a member of the Madison Methodist church. She had lived at different times at Harmony, Buckhead, Apalachee and Madison. She was a woman of unusual strength of mind and character, and many are sad at the news of her going away. But it is her home that she will be sorely missed. She was a devoted wife and mother, and it is the little ones who will miss her gentle admonitions and ministrations. Joyce McCorkle, Livermore, CA ejoycemc@attbi.com
