Eliza Jane Vaughan was born December 17th, 1813. She suffered many years of afflication --15 years she was confined to her bed. She bore her afflictions with great patience. She departed this life at her oldest daughter's home, Mrs. E.T. Nutt, on the 14th April, 1897, where she has made her home since the death of her husband, Thos. Vaughan. She was married to Thos. Vaughan Dec. 11, 1830, was the mother of fifteen children, and of that number only six survive here. Her husband, Thomas Vaughan, departed this life Mar. 17th, 1877, and she at last has gone to strike hands with him in heaven and to meet her children there who have gone before her. She joined the Missionary Baptist church at Rockcreek church in Monroe county, Ga. in 1825, and has lived as a faithful member until death called her away. She was always cheerful, making all those about her happy in friendship. She was constant and faithful, given to hospitality, many weary ministers finding rest under her roof, and strangers were never turned away. In all relations of life, civil, social, domestic and religious, she sustained a character untarnished, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted, kind-hearted and christian mother, and as a great hand for prayer meeting. She often prayed at church in public, and used to keep up family prayer at home every night. She very often spoke of brethern and sisters in the church and prayed that old Centralhatchee church, of which she was one of the oldest members, might grow in grace and that they all might be saved.
