Mary Annetta Cox, b. 16 October 1849, Murray County, GA. Daughter of James and 
Elizabeth (Holcombe) Cox. Grandparents: Malone and Ann (Dunn) Cox; Absalom and 
Caroline (Smith) Holcombe.  She was enumerated on the 1850 Federal Census, 
Murray Co., page 147B, line 22, shortly before the family left GA to go to AR.  
She married William Merrill Brooks, III,b.1853, Nevada Co, AR,(son of W.M. 
Brooks, Jr.(b. 1814, Habersham Co, GA).  Their children were: Eliza Caroline, 
b. 1871, Nevada Co, AR; Ida Zeru, b. 1880, Nevada Co, AR; Emma Isabel, b. 1884, 
Murfreesboro, Pike Co, AR.  WMBrooks,III died in 1896. She married James 
Blackmon.  Eliza married Heil Freeman Upchurch and they settled in Grant, 
Choctaw Co, IT(now OK); Ida never married; Emma married Charlie Bunn. They 
lived in Nevada Co, AR until 1919, when they moved to Miller Co, AR.  Grandma 
lived with or near them. In 1929, she had gone to OK to visit Eliza and died 
while there.  She was brought back to Texarkana and buried in Shiloh Baptist 
Church Cemetery, Texarkana, Miller Co, AR.  Ida and two of her granddaughters 
are buried next to her.  
   

Additional Comments:
Emma and Charlie had seven children in Nevada Co.  One died, there and another 
daughter born in Miller Co.  My mother, Maggie Christine, was their 4th child.  
She married James Ellis Young, g-grandson of George Remer and Mary Ann (Gilly) 
Young of Twiggs County, GA and later to Bossier Parish, LA.
