Chapman born 1800 in Virginia married 1st wife???? in Virginia. Spent a short time in Putnam Co., Ga., then moving to Russell Co., Alabama in 1832. He had eight children by his first wife, all girls, Nancy Ann, Sarah Ann, Mary ( Polly ), Ellen A. (Elender), Elizabeth (Molly), Emily G.( Eula), Martha B., Sophia C.F. Mrs. Chapman died in childbirth with her last child in 1838. The first four children were born in Va., two were born in Ga. and all the others were born in Russell Co. Allen had eight more children by 2nd wife Sarah Thomas Chapman, three boys and five girls, Amelia Ann, Jane P., Elvira J., James Chambers, Evaline C., Susannah, Edward W., Allen A. Jr. The first records that states the year Allen Chapman was in Russell Co., Ala. was a witness for M.W. Perry who bought land from Motha, Creek Indian, for $500.00, 24 March 1832 Russell Co., Ala. Allen Chapman was an owner of several hundred acre's around Cottonton and Loftin. He was a farmer, traded in lands and crops. In the public records of Russell Co., Allen Chapman was a slave owner who believe in keeping the families together. He traded with the Creek Indians, Halato, Safhsloka, Ohomihka, Amuelarki and others that are hard to read, these names are mention on the records. When Allen Chapman first came to Russell Co., Ala.. He encountered hostile Indians that were giving the white man trouble for invading their land. This was soon settled and they made peace with the Creek Indians and started buying and trading land with them. All through the public records of Russell Co., Allen Chapman name is on these records dealing with the Indians, buying their land and witnessing the buying of their land and being a witness for the Indians. Russell Co., was still a primitive frontier in the 1830's. Allen had the elements to deal with and the dangers of sickness from the diseases that prevailed a that time and four little children and a wife to protect. Life was not easy for the early pioneers, they toiled from sun up to sun down, clearing their land, getting it ready for planting. They built their home, barns, and fences for their live stock, trying to make a better life for his family. They were a happy and hardy stock. Allen Chapman had a very large home in Loflin, Russell Co., Ala. Six bedrooms that were very large 20x20. The hall was in the middle of the house to divide the six bedrooms, 3 on one side and 3 on the other side. Each bedroom had a fireplace The kitchen was built away from the house with a breezeway that connected the kitchen to the house. It had a very large fireplace and a huge chimney. The meals were prepared in the large fireplace. The front door entered in the large hallway that led to the back door. The windows were from ceiling to floor. The house had a large roof and high ceilings. The Chapman Family spent some of their leisure time on Hog Island, this was the community gathering place for pleasure, there was picnicking, wading, playing games and just enjoying each others company. This was probably done on a Sunday afternoon when their church services were over. Allen Chapman died 15 May 1872 in Russell Co., Ala. The Executor of the Estate was his brother Edward W. Chapman and his nephew Edward Wm. Pulaska Chapman son of Pulaska Chapman, Allen's brother. The Publication of the Will ran in the Russell Examiner Jan 1873. Allen was buried at the Saint Anthony Cemetery in Loflin, Ala. Preceded Allen in death was his 1st wife Mrs. Chapman, his daughters Evaline Dunlap wife of James Dunlop, Polly Kennedy wife of Jesse Kennedy, Martha Sanders wife of James Sanders, Elizabeth Wall wife of E. G. Wall. Survived by his 2nd wife Sarah, his sons James Chambers Chapman, Edward W. Chapman, and Allen A. Jr. Chapman his daughters Nancy McGuire wife of John Mc Guire, Sarah Ann Caniday wife of John Caniday, Elender Thornton wife of Washington Thornton, Emily Dennis wife of Wm. Dennis, Sophia Fuller wife of James Fuller , Amila Chapman wife of Wm P. Chapman, Jane Alford wife of Wm. Alford, Elvira Coleman wife of David Coleman, and Susannah Dennis wife of Michael Dennis Ellen P.
