This family begins in France under the name of Fonataine- to England , to the colonies and were active in the Rev. War and lived in N.C.- From N.C. they came to Jefferson Co., Ga. where Noah, Jr . and Robert Jackson were born. Noah, Jr. in 1806. Noah, Jr. married Emile Gordy, Creek Indian, and came to Dale Co. from Muscogee Co., Ga. 1850. They had : Melvina, who married Brewer and went to Texas, William W. married Alie Elizabeth Miller of Dale Co. and moved to Morgan and Butler Cos., Ala.,Ruthie married Faulk in Barbour Co., Ala., Narcissa married Jordan and after the CW moved back to Ga. Susan married Samuel Stephens of Dale Co. and Emma married John W. Stephens and moved to Barbour Co., Ala. Noah, Jr. was a large land and slave holder in Dale Co. and was murdered by Speckled Ward near his home between Skipperville and Clopton near the Fountain bridge. After the CW , William W.(son of Noah, Jr) and his family left Dale Co.William had sons,Noah Franklin, b. 1865 in Dale Co., Ala. and John H., b. 1878, and George. George went to Texas. Noah Franklin remained in Ala. John H. was in the U.S. Navy from 1792- 1896. At the conclusion of the Spanish American War, he went to Cuba as a foreman. The U.S. Govt. was in control of Cuba for 4 years in the rebuilding of Cuba. He married a lady of Spanish decent and had 2 children. The family stayed in Cuba and he went to the Panama Canal Zone in the building of the canal. He was killed in a train wreck there. There were 2 of his decendents killed in the revolution with Castro. A decendent of the above, Willam A. brought his family to the states in 1967 to Chicago. Two of the sons, George and William. They have both settled in So.Calif. George has 2 daughters and William has just this month had his first son,William Joseph, the first male decendent of this line born in the US. Very interesting, that all given names in the history of this family in Cuba were American and very common in the Fountain family.
