David H. born circa 1819 in GA, was the son of Jacob and Sarah (____) FUNDERBURKE, both were born in SC. David H. FUNDERBURKE was listed in the Muscogee County Tax Digest for 1845. He was paying a poll tax, owned no slaves and had 100 acres of land, lot no. 149 in the 10th District of the county. This large farm was the lot next to Pope Plantation. David H. and his young bride lived on part of the lot adjacent to his parents, who owned the other 100 acres of lot no. 149. When the Talbot County line was changed in 1847 to include the northeast section of Muscogee County, both families were in that part annexed to Talbot County. He could have arrived as a lad as early as 1790 with his sister (Elizabeth Pettit's family) or later with his brother, John or sister, Feribie Pope. We estimate the marriage of Wiley to Martha (_______) to have taken place about 1800. The 1850 U. S. Census, Talbot Co, GA recorded birthplace of Wiley Pope as NC, and Martha (_______) Pope's birthplace as GA, with the date of birth as 1778. Thus, Martha (_______) Pope's family was located in GA prior to or during the American Revolution. It is believed that the marriage was performed in Washington Co, GA and the record destroyed in the Courthouse fires. The couple's first child, Brittain Pope was born in GA in 1802. These facts are confirmed by the 1850 U.S. Census, Talbot Co, GA and bible records preserved by the descendents of this son. The 1820 census (Washington Co, GA) was an important one for the family of Wiley Pope, as they are together for the first time in a U. S. Census. The household of Wiley Pope and Martha (________) in 1820 included; Brittain Pope - born 1802 Daniel Pope - born 21 Nov 1805 <-------- Father of Martha Ann POPE Unknown male - born between 1805 - 1810 Alston/Austin Pope - born ca 1812 William Blake Pope - born 2 Aug 1815 Allen Anderson Pope - born 17 Nov 1817 --------------------------------
