Before Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home was located on Double Churches Road, it was located behind St. Elmo School, at the corner of 17th Ave. & about 21st St. http://www.legis.state.ga.us/Legis/1995_96/leg/fulltext/sr203.htm "Georgia Senate - 1995/1996 Sessions SR 203 - Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home, Columbus - 150th anniversary WHEREAS, the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home was founded in 1- 9 1845 as an orphans' home to care for destitute and abandoned 1-10 children, and, after moving to its present location on 1-11 Double Churches Road in the 1960s, it has evolved into a 1-12 residential treatment program providing intermediate and 1-13 basic care for abused and traumatized adolescent girls; and" ================== In the book, "The Columbus, Georgia Centenary 1828-1928" by Nancy Telfair (c) 1929, the following paragraph is on page 72: 'The establishment of the Columbus Femaile Asylum for orphans in 1844 through the efforts of prominent women of the Methodist church resulted in a school for the children at that institution, although the educational feature was later discharged due to lack of funds.'
