[missing title] ROADS, BRIDGES AND FERRIES. 1827 Vol. 1 -- Page: 165 Sequential Number: 131 Full Title: AN ACT to establish and make permanent a ferry across the Chattahoochee river in the county of [Illegible Text] at a place known by the name of Gates' ferry on his own land, and to vest the right thereof in Charles Gates and his heirs, and to fix the rates of said ferry. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and immediately after the passage of this act, that Charles Gates be, and he is hereby authorised and empowered to erect a ferry across the Chattahoochee river on his own land, and that [Illegible Text] [Illegible Text] entitled to demand and receive the following rates of toll or ferriage, to wit: for a loaded waggon and team, fifty cents -- for a four wheel carriage and two horses, thirty-seven and a half cents -- for a gig and horse, twenty-five cents -- for a horse and cart, twenty-five cents -- for a man and horse, twelve and a half -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Page: 166 cents -- for an ox cart and oxen, twenty five cents -- for each foot passenger, six and a quarter cents -- for each head of neat cattle, two cents -- for hogs, sheep or goats, one cent -- for a led horse, six and a quarter cents. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the said Charles Gates shall be held responsible for all losses or damages which may be sustained in consequence of negligence or other improper conduct at said ferry.
