Infantry was formed partly by consolidation of the 3d and 9th Battalions of Georgia Infantry May 6, 1863. The 9th Battalion Georgia Infantry was also known as the 17th Battalion Ga. Inf. Armstrong, William W.- private February 18, 1864. Wounded and captured at Franklin, Tenn. December 18, 1864. Admitted to U. S. A. General Hospital at Nashville, Tenn., with fractured right foot, December 27, 1864. Turned over to Provost Marshal January 7, 1865. Took oath of allegiance to U. S. Govt. at Nash ville, Tenn. and released January 15, 1865. (Born in Harris County, Ga. December 1842.) Avra, James A.- private February 18, 1864. Pension records show he was sent to Macon, Ga. hospital September 1, 1864. Furloughed for 60 days. Furlough extended. Sick in Eufaula, Ala. hos pital close of war. (Born in Ga. Died at Dawson, Ga. December 1939.) Balkcom, Henry L.- private February 18, 1864. Captured at Salis- bury, N. C. April 12, 1865. Released at Camp Chase, O. June 11, 1865. Capehart, Thomas W.- private February 24, 1864. Roll dated April 1, 1864, last on file, shows him present. No later record. Capehart, William H.- private February 24, 1864. Captured at Calhoun, Ga. May 17, 1864. Enlisted in U. S. Navy at Alton, Ill. Military Prison June 10, 1864. Cash, Newton H.- private March 14, 1864. Roll dated April 1, 1864, last on file, shows him present. No later record. Culpepper, William - private August 12, 1863. Wounded at Resaca, Ga. May 16, 1864. Surrendered at Greensboro, N. C. April 26, 1865. Dewberry, James - private February 18, 1864. Wounded in leg at Franklin, Tenn., necessitating amputation, November 30, 1864, and captured there December 17, 1864. Paroled at Camp Chase, O. May 2, 1865. Sent via New Orleans, La. for exchange. Re ceived at Vicksburg, Miss. May 12, 1865. Greer, R. C.- private February 18, 1864. Roll dated April 1, 1864, last on file, shows him present. No later record. Transferred to Co. B, 37th Regiment Ga. Inf. in 1864. Wounded at Franklin, Tenn. November 30, 1864. Captured at Pulaski, Tenn. December 25, 1864. Released at Camp Chase, O. June 13, 1865. Army for frontier service, October 6, 1864. Vance, Lervin H. (or Levin H.) - private February 12, 1864. Sur- rendered at Greensboro, N. C. April 26, 1865. Whatley, J. L.- private 1864. Pension records show he was wounded through right breast at Atlanta, Ga. July 22, 1864, and was discharged in 1865. (Born in Ga.) White, D. H.- private March 8, 1864.
