He served in the Spanish American War. Harry Salter is buried in Riverdale Cemetery. He was reported to have been the first person to be buried in the Military section of that cemetery, however, his grave is located in the second site. His Military Records say: Harry SALTER was listed as 2 Master Sgt. Co M, 1 reg't W. VA Infantry He Mustered in May 7, 1898 in Charleston W. VA He had traveled from Moundsville W.VA, which was 254 miles away, in order to join Military Records show him to have been age 29 at that time, height: 5 feet 10 1/2 inches, dark complected with Brown eyes and hair. His occupation was listed as, Painter He Mustered-out in Columbus GA, 04 Feb 1899 *My notes *(That is where he met and married Maggie HAM) Military Records do show he was married at the time he joined the military to Minnie Allison.
