An overnight fire has destroyed the historic Bibb Mill, once the center of
Columbus' rich textile past.

The fire was called in shortly after midnight Thursday. Eleven units responded
to the First Avenue structure about 12:30 a.m., said Columbus Fire and Emergency
Medical Services Deputy Chief Greg Lang. Between 50 and 60 emergency response
personnel worked through the early morning hours to bring the blaze under control.
