Harrison, of Columbus, was unanimously elected state editor for the next year. The Daughters of Georgia are to be congratulated upon their wise choice of a woman to fill this important office. Mrs. Harrison needs no introduction to the women of the state, having been prominent in DAR work for several years, nor is she new in editorial work, having served as assistant editor under both Mrs. T. M. Green and Mrs. W. C. Clark. Mrs. Harrison is the wife of Captain Joseph Sturgis Harrison and their home is at 112 Fourteenth street, Columbus, Ga. Mrs. Harrison is prominent in many lines of club work; she is a member of the Georgia Society of Colonial Dames, a charter member of the Oglethorpe chapter DAR of Columbus, is at present secretary of the Lizzie Rutherford chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, of Columbus, and a member of the official program committee for the Georgia division, UDC, and an active member of the Ladies Memorial Association, of Columbus. Mrs. Harrison's maiden name was Sallie Marshall Martin, the daughter of Peter Marshall Martin, of Meriwether county, and his wife, Jane Ellison Ware. Her paternal grandfather was Marshall Martin, of Hancock county, who saw service in the war of 1812. His father (Mrs. Harrison's great-grandfather) was General John Martin, of Edgefield district, South Carolina, who was a Revolutionary soldier. Other revolutionary ancestors of Mrs. Harrison are Colonel Nathan Terry, of Virginia; John Oliver, an ensign in Second regiment of North Carolina; Captain Robert Ware, Colonel Thomas Carr, Major Robert Ellison and Captain Thomas Potts. Mrs. Harrison is a direct descendant of three famous Revolutionary heriones also, to wit: Elizabeth Marshall, the wife of Abram Martin, whose acts of bravery are recorded in Mrs. Ellet's "Women of the Revolution," and Elizabeth Potts, the wife of Major Robert Ellison, and Agnes Hobson, the wife of William Bacon. Her maternal great-grandfather was Hon. Nicholas Ware, who was the first mayor of Augusta, Ga., and was United States senator from Georgia from 1821 to 1824. After this issue Mrs. Harrison will take active charge of the DAR section in The Atlanta Constitution and with her well-known ability and the cordial co- operation of the DAR chapters of the state, is sure to produce a department in which every Daughter will feel a pride.
