Five bullets from Jefferson’s 38-caliber pistol took effect in the officer’s body. Jefferson was arrested and may have to answer to the charge of murder. The Butler Herald April 25, 1911 Page Four State News Items Policeman Marion Marchant died Monday of last week at Columbus as a result of the wounds inflicted by James Jefferson, a saloon man on Wednesday night. Jefferson was carried to Macon by Sheriff Beard for safekeeping. The feeling is high in Columbus against him.
