Gilbert, of Columbus, spoke at the Methodist church to a large congregation on last Sunday night, the purpose of his speech being the organization of a Baraca class in the Sunday school. Captain Gilbert told how he came to be interested in the Sunday school work. He said he moved from Stewart County to Columbus a number of years ago, and for a while attended the Sunday school. After a time he did not go anymore. He left Columbus, went off to college and remained several years. He returned to Columbus, married, and took up the affairs of every day life. In time, two little boys came to bless his home, and as they grew up, he began to think about their going to Sunday school. He said he realized that the only way for him to get his boys to take an interest in the school was for him to do so, and he forth-with began to go to Sunday school again. He became a member of the Baraca class and is now a very active member and worker. The Baraca class is simply for the study of the Bible, made up of young men. The class derived the name from a beautiful story taken from the Bible. Captain Gilbert is anxious to see such a class formed in the Sunday school here. Captain Gilbert is an eloquent speaker and he spent much time in telling the audience why they should study the Bible and become familiar with its teachings. He spoke of its being the greatest of classics, a book of the most entrancing stories, of its beautiful poems, and said that no man should neglect his opportunities to become acquainted with its teachings. His address was very much enjoyed by the congregation and immediately after the service closed, steps were taken to organize a Bible class in the Sunday school.
