H.S. Allen, Pastor of Broad Street Methodist Church, against Mr. Robert Reid, Mr. E.M. Wheat and the Wheat Drug Company, charging them with misdemeanor the specific charge being that they violated the Sunday law in that they sold soft drinks at their soda founts last Sunday. Sheriff Roberts served the papers and the defendants all promptly gave bond in the sum of $100. The cases have been set for trial in the City Court this morning, and much interest attaches to the outcome. Witnesses have been subpoenaed and it is presumed that the cases will go to trial. It will be remembered that recently the grand jury instructed the Sheriff to enforce the Sunday law, permitting the sale only of such necessities as drugs, ice, etc. All drug stores at once discontinued the sale of everything but drugs, the soda fountains being placed out of commission from Saturday night until Monday morning This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
