Geo. G.N. MacDonell, the presiding elder of the Columbus district of the Methodist church. The class of young ministers admitted to the church in 1854 was an unusually large one, numbering 23 members. Rev. Mr. MacDonell says that only one class, that of 1858, when 27 young preachers were admitted was larger than this. This class of ’54 furnished to the Methodist church a number of men destined to become widely known, among them being Bishop Fitzgerald. It may be of interest to know that Bishop Fitzgerald was formerly a printer, and admits that he still has a taste for journalism. The article is written in Rev. Mr. MacDonell’s usual lucid, interesting style. He himself was a member of that class, and hence is well qualified to write sketches of its members. – Columbus Enquirer-Sun File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/muscogee/newspapers/revgeorg2382nw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
