Tillman, of Columbus, has made his annual fall visit to his Mississippi plantation in the Delta, and he writes to the Enquirer-Sun a glowing letter of the cotton crop out there, mentioning thousands of acres that would make one to one and a half bales to the acre that pickers had not entered this season. We have often noticed in Mr. Tillman’s letters that he refers to the Delta region as God’s country. This reminds us of the story of a man who said if he owned hades and a certain place he would live in hades and rent out that certain place. We have no doubt that the Mississippi valley with its broad acres and fertile lands is a fine farming section, but Mr. Tillman evidently overdraws the picture in speaking of the health of the section. We do not think the negroes of this section who went out to Mississippi would hardly agree that the section is healthy, as those who did not die out there returned home sick, and some died after returning. We are told that Mr. Tillman will not go to his Mississippi plantation without his wife going with him, as he was afraid he might get sick before his return.
