Geraldine Comer was born February 4, 1917 in Russell County, AL, daughter of the late John Burt Ellison and Minnie Pearl Howard Ellison. Her fraternal grandparents were the late Charles A. Ellison and Georgia Ann Pounds Ellison. Her maternal grandparents were the late Andrew Jackson Howard and Josephine Smith Howard. Cecil Arthur Comer to whom she married on July 3, 1948, preceded Geraldine Ellison in death. Geraldine and Cecil were married for almost 40 years. Geri was a long time member of Summerville Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School at Summerville Baptist for 25 years. Summerville Baptist Church was built on land purchased from her late husband, Cecil Arthur Comer who was the son of Frank Lee Comer and Sally Maude Gregory Comer. The Phenix City School System employed Geraldine Comer as school lunchroom manager for Brick and Central Elementary Schools until her retirement. She was a member of the Russell County Retired Teachers Association until her sister Doris Ellison Knight moved her to Senoia, GA. Geraldine was preceded in death by her sisters: Syble Juanita Ellison and Eleanor Elizabeth Ellison Kennington, wife of the late Oscar Kennington. Survivors include her sister, Doris Ann Ellison Knight and her husband, Albert McGee Knight and their children: Jerry Ann Knight Fain, husband Bob Fain; Albert McGee Knight, Jr. and his wife Barbara Freeman Knight; Judy Gail Knight Whitwood, and husband Noel Eugene Whitwood and Doris Knight's grandchildren: Michael Knight, Chris Knight, Wendy Gail Whitwood, and Dean Wesley Whitwood. Geraldine was buried in Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA next to her husband Cecil Arthur Comer. Colonel Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL, handled the funeral arrangements.
