Born Nov. 1, 1861, near Columbia, AL. Mrs. Crossman was the daughter of Confederate Captain William Cawthon WILSON and Ordelia Shine BATTLE WILSON . She lived in Columbia until the time of her marriage 70 years ago {(1892?} to John C. Crossman, when she moved to Columbus {GA}. For the past nine years, she has lived with Mr. Tom HADLEY at the Pine Mountain Rest Home. Mrs. Crossman was the direct descendant of James WILSON of PA, signer of the Declaration of Independence. Her father signed for the state of AL when that state receded from the Union. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Crossman is survived by several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Rubie D. HOLT and Louis P. DOWDELL of Columbus {GA}. NOTE: Anything in {} I added to death notice. COLUMBUS, GA ENQUIRER APRIL 9, 1962 Page 15 FUNERAL NOTICES CROSSMAN - Funeral services for Mrs. Roxie Crossman, 100, of HADLEY Nursing Home, Pine Mountain, GA, will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon from the graveside RIVERDALE CEMETERY with Dr. Othell Hand, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers will be J. C. COX, Sam P. MOORE, John MOORE, T. B. WILLIS, James McMILLAN, Cordale, GA Thomas DAVIS and Dr. John BUSH. Survivors include nieces and nephews of which include a nephew, Louis DOWELL and a niece,Mrs. Rubie D. HOLT of Columbus, GA.
