Edwards Killed Mr. Jno. Edwards, brother of Dr. Edwards, Marion County’s representative, was shot and killed on his place in Muscogee County last Saturday morning. At the same time his son, Jeff Edwards was seriously, perhaps fatally wounded. The shooting was done by a sixteen year old boy, Bartow Nix, and was the result of a dispute over the ownership of a small field of oats. Mr. Edwards had planted a field of sixteen acres in oats. The land was claimed by both Edwards and Nix, and the matter had been taken into the courts. The courts decided in favor of Nix, but Edwards thought he had a right to cut the oats that he had planted and it was while he was doing this that he was shot and killed. The shooting was done with a shotgun. Edwards was shot once and his son twice. Dr. Edwards went to his brothers home Monday morning. Some time ago, in a dispute over an oat patch in the eastern part of the county, young Nix shot and killed John Edwards and also badly wounded his son, Jeff Edwards. The young man died later and hence the second indictment. Edwards by Judge Butts, in the Muscogee County Superior Court. The boy received the sentence calmly and offered no reason why he should not be sentenced to the penitentiary for the rest of his life. His attorneys will make a motion for a new trial at once.
