Fountain was a member of the Wynnton Baptist Church and of the Masonic Order. He was born in Mt. Vernon, GA., December 6, 1891, a son of the later W.E. and Georgia Turner Fountain. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Irene Smith Fountain of Columbus, three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Dickson, Augusta, GA; Mrs. Margaret Grubbs, Panama Canal Zone, and Mrs. Massey, Columbus; five grandchildren, Miss Gerrie Whellis, Augusta; Judson, Margaret, and Susan-Irene Grubbs, Panama Canal Zone, and John Massey, Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Nobles, Ray City, GA and Mrs. Lottie Herrington, Charleston, SC; three brothers, Will Fountain, Mt. Vernon; Julian Fountain , Detroit, MI; and Max Fountain, Nashville, GA. Funeral was to be held at 2 p.m. today from the grave in Parkhill Cemetery, with the Rev. Glenn C. Womack; pastor, Wynnton Baptist Church, in Charge. Pallbearers were to be P.B. Massey, F.F. Harris, and Richard Howard. O.C. Crabtree, Emery Teel, J.C. McLendon, Harry Holloman and A.L. Stanford, Jr. The Columbus Enquirer February 14, 1963 MRS. IRENE FOUNTAIN, 69, 1221 Cedar Ave., died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, at her home after an illness of several months. Mrs. Fountain, widow of John W. Fountain, had lived here 50 years. She was a member of Wynnton Baptist Church. Survivors included three daughters, Mrs. John Edgar Massey, Columbus, Mrs. W. Sanford Dickson, Augusta, and Mrs. Elmer W. Grubbs, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD: two sisters, Mrs. C. Holloman, Macon, and Mrs. A.L. Stanford, Lakeland, FL; an brother, Griggs Smith, Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. FOUNTAIN - Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Smith Fountain, will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. at the graveside, Park hill Cemetery, with Dr. Charles J. Granade officiating. Pallbearers will be, J.C. Holloman, Harry Holloman, A. L. Stanford, Jr., O.C. Crabtree, Morton Simmons, P.B. Massey, Clyde Gilbert, Heel Holloway, O.E. Riley, Leonard Oliver, Robert Phillips, and Guy Lindsay.
