A memorial service will be held at a later date at Ft. Benning Cemetery according to Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista. Mr. Gilbert was born January 8, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa to Harvey Day and Leona Blanche Crandall Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his father Harvey Gilbert and wife; his mother Leona Jackson and husband Fred; his daughter Diane Marte Gilbert; his sister Joyce Ann Gilbert; and two brothers, Donald Gilbert and Russell Gilbert. He was Christian by faith. He had lived in Buena Vista for 14 years after residing in California for 10 years. He served honorably in the United States Army as a sergeant in the First Class Medical during Korean Vietnam War and retired after 20 years. He is survived by his wife Reba Suddeth Gilbert; eight children: Debra Jackson and husband Tom of Milton, Florida, Doreer Goodson and husband Charles of Phenix City, Alabama, Misty Gibson and husband Mark; Rhonda Zink and husband Doug, all of Buena Vista, Georgia, Donald Gilbert and wife Debra of Phenix City, Alabama, Denise Walton and husband Robert of Columbus, Georgia; Terry Mitchell and Chrystal of North Fort Myers, Florida, and Aaron Moody and wife Pam of Phenix City, Alabama; his brother James Gilbert of Oregon; his sister Ardith Gilbert of Waterloo, Iowa; his aunt Marge Crandall; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones. He was deeply loved. He will be in our hearts and only a thought away. He will be missed always and remembered forever.
