Givens James Morgan Givens, 86, Whitesville Road, died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cypress Chapel with burial in Parkhill Cemetery. Mr. Givens was born Feb. 14, 1884, in Houston County, Al; a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Givens. Mr. Givens had lived here 25 years an was a retired textile worker. Survivors include five sons, Bascom, Ray and Billy Givens, all of Columbus, Sanford Givens Milton, Fla., and Earl Givens, Pensacola, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Fred Smith, Columbus, Mrs. Ray Stann {*} and Mrs. Carlton Killingsworth, both of Phenix City; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Parkhill Cemetery, with Reverend Ronnie Jordan officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Givens was born June 22, 1929 in Dothan, AL, son of the late James Morgan Givens and Emma Lee Pippins Givens. He had lived in Columbus for the past 60 years and was a member of the Oates Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Givens retired for the Bibb Manufacturing Company after 47 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Nell Givens. Survivors include two son, Danny Givens and Steve Givens, both of Columbus; one daughter, Gloria Sanders of Phenix City, AL; Two sisters, Florence Spann and Annie Lee Killingworth, both of Phenix City, AL; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
