Hammon, whose home is in Columbus, Ohio, was fatally injured late yesterday when a 75-millimeter shell with which he was toying, exploded in his hand. The left hang and leg were torn off by the projectile and his face badly bruised. He died shortly afterwards in the Benning hospital. Funeral services were held at Benning today for the young man who had just passed his twenty-second year of life. The body will be sent to Columbus.
