J.P. HIGGINS Mr. James Pearce Higgins, son of the late J.T. Higgins, was born September 27, 1878 and was reared in Chambers county, Alabama where he spent his entire life. He was married to Miss Odessa Prather, daughter of the late and lamented T.J. Prather, also of Chambers county, on December 27, 1903. He was a loving and devoted husband and a loving father. Early in life Mr. Higgins united with the Primitive Baptist church and lived a christian life. We feel that he has departed from his loved ones to join our blessed Savior above. During the year 1927 he, together with his family, moved to LaGrange, Georgia where they became endeared to many friends. Mr. Higgins was widely known and highly respected by all of his acquaintances. His death occurred May 2, 1928 following an illness of three weeks. The funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Baptist church at Five Points, Alabama by Rev. Walter P. Binns, pastor of the First Baptist church of LaGrange, and music was furnished by the choir from LaGrange. The house was filled to overflowing and this, together with the many beautiful floral offerings, proves the high esteem in which he was held by those who knew him. Interment was in the Five Points cemetery with the six brothers-in-law serving as pall bearers; Horace Collier, Gid Wheeler, Richard Embrey, Dock, Henry and King Prather. Surving are his wife and seven children; Lorena, James, Nellie, Vernon, Herman, Julia and Fred, all of LaGrange, also his stepmother Mrs. Fannie L. Higgins and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Lola Britton of Loraine, Texas Mrs. Rena Wheeler of Roanoke, Ala. N.B. Higgins of Five Points, Ala. Cohen Higgins of Columbus, Ga.
